In a hydraulic press which is particularly intended for the compression moulding of fibre-reinforced plastics and in which the pressing force is introduced symmetrically from above, by means of at least one hydraulic pressing cylinder (5) via an associated connection point, into the press slide (9) which is guided laterally and can be braked by means of counter-holding devices, in which arrangement the connection point is formed by a hydrostatic bearing element (8) into which plunges in each case a part of the associated pressing cylinder (5), a relative movement having a small transverse force and moment between the piston (plunger 7) of the pressing cylinder (5) and the press slide (9) is achieved if the hydrostatic bearing element (8) is designed as an annular body (18) and is arranged in a sealing manner on a supporting face of the slide (9), and if the effective diameter of the seal (39) opposite the press ram (9) is smaller than the diameter of the end of the piston rod (19) which plunges into the annular body.
